Alice was born March 3, 1900 at the home of her parents George Franklin Kemp and Elizabeth Workman. She begin work at age 13 as a telephone operator, after five years at this job Alice went to work at M.Hakes & Sons, as bookkeeper.
In the fall of 1919, Alice and William Henry Fuchs, Son of Charles and Anna Fuchs had their first date, a date to Silver Lake to swim and the following February they were married in Estherville,Iowa.
